Celebrating 125 Years of Banding in the North-East of England.
Backworth Colliery Band is a traditional yet progressive brass band based in the Newcastle-upon-Tyne area. The band and junior band rehearse twice a week and perform at concerts and contests in the North East and elsewhere in the North of England.
The band and its members play many varied styles of music from traditional brass band music, dance and swing band, modern pop, classics and film music, as well as the best of modern original composition for the genre.
The band and junior band are a brass band available for hire - from a full brass band to smaller ensembles, as well as a marching band.

History
Backworth Colliery Band was formed in 1886, and was part of the social element of the surrounding mine workings. The start of the band was funded in part by fundraising events such as concerts; the earliest dates to 1871.
