Plans for the Future

The band has an ambitious programme of events to coincide with the reversion of the band to “Backworth Colliery Band”.  These include:

• a rebrand of the band with new logo and website
• recruitment drive for the junior band aimed at local schools and organisations
• a £24,000 fund-raising project to purchase new instruments and music
• a history project to retrace the roots of the band and the involvement/influence/heritage of Backworth Collieries
• regular meetings and involvement with Backworth Residents Association, local community groups and the Ward Valley Councillors
• expanding the repertoire of the band to perform music outside of the normal brass band genre (i.e. small groups, dance/swing band music, individual performances, partnerships with other organisations)

However the band is proud to remain true to the traditions of brass bands.
