Adrian started to learn to play a brass instrument around 1983 at the local Salvation Army in Nelson, Lancashire, he was quite reluctant at first but soon got the bug and carried on. After a short period of learning/tuition Adrian joined the junior band and also played alongside the senior band. Adrian’s first instrument was tenor horn, then Eb Bass, then horn etc etc, and soon moved around most of the band to suit where the needs were greater.
Around 89/90 Adrian moved on to what was called outside brass banding (outside the SA), he joined various bands in the Lancashire area where he played until he and his family moved to Newcastle upon Tyne in 2001. After settling in the area Adrian decided it was time to find a band again and continue playing, he did this with his wife Gillian (Tuned Percussionist), again playing in quite a few bands of different levels until around 2013 where he joined Backworth and has played there ever since. Adrian greatest banding achievement was playing for the championship section band BHK Horden Colliery Band.
